Belle Isle photoshoot

I had a client friend ask to do a photo session at Belle Isle this Spring and after that gorgeous session, I decided to invite two of my daughter’s friends on a photoshoot picnic. The girls had so much fun and we loved chasing them around this Alice-in-Wonderland-esque landscape. Her are some photos from our picnic…

***fun fact*** Belle Isle was designed by Olmsted (same guy who designed Central Park in NYC)!

Koodelah

My friend Becky Lopez is a mega-talented jewelry designer. She is the owner/creator of Koodelah. We had so much fun collaborating for this photoshoot. Her jewelry is A M A Z I N G! I was trying all of it on during the shoot and every piece feels so natural on… I don’t wear a ton of jewelry because I really don’t like it getting in the way and I never want to feel like i’m trying too hard. Her stuff looks and feels effortless and organic. Just one piece instantly made me feel more stylish and I love that!

Becky handcrafts all of her jewelry in her home studio. With many of her pieces, she uses the lost-wax casting method in which she carves her designs out of wax and then casts them in metals like bronze and silver. She uses one-of-a-kind vintage components in her designs as well.

I love the way these photos turned out and i’m so happy to be a part of what Becky is doing!!!

Family Camping trip 2013

My family started a new tradition a couple years ago…  My nana, mom & step dad, baby brother and his wife & daughters, middle brother & his girlfriend and her daughter, and my husband, my daughter & I, we all go camping up north in the Sleeping Bear Dunes.  We found a great spot to camp that couldn’t be more perfect for us and the most amazing “secret” beach.  It has a small lake with a shallow creek running to Lake Michigan.  It’s perfect for our littles to play in.  I reminisce about the same “little village” group campsite we reserve, the communal firepit, the brisk mornings, the fire charred eggs & potatoes, the honeycrisp apples, and gathering/hacking our own firewood…  Going through these photos brings me right back to the dunes and makes me long for these days to be back soon… but this year will not be the same without my youngest brother, sister-in-law and my nieces.  They moved to Germany last year a couple months after this camping trip.  I really miss them.  I’m looking forward to their visit this summer, but it’s unlikely they’ll have the time to fit a camping trip in while they’re here.

Well, missing my family inspired me to sift through the 700 photos I took on this trip, edit a handful and share them with you… and MOST IMPORTANTLY, share them with my family who has yet to see them!

Life is not the same without you near, Hugh, Heidi, Charlotte & Amelia!

Trust.

So, WOW… my best intentions to start blogging were thwarted by, hmmm… what stops any of us from manifesting our dreams?  Fear, procrastination, general busy-ness… lots of things.  It has been a while since my last post, but here’s to new starts! And new logos (Thanks, Terra Etienne)! Let’s get to the photography…

Besides working as a photographer for a few different companies, I have not had any [CW] clients that weren’t friends or friends-of-friends until last October.  Somehow, Tracy found my meek little blog on the interweb and contacted me about doing a maternity shoot!  With only 2 blog posts, some photos I emailed her, and no Facebook presence, she entrusted me to document one of the most important times in a person’s life;  And then graciously invited me back to photograph her most precious treasure, her newborn baby boy.  The complete trust that Tracy had in me, a complete stranger, really blew me away.  She has such a beautifully bright and warm spirit and a great ability to laugh.  It totally translated through her photos and put me and her husband at ease during what can be a very awkward process.  I don’t think there’s anything more important for a portrait photographer than capturing glimpses of genuine transparency.  So, thank you, Tracy, for trusting me and letting me be a part of this miraculous time in your life.

Sarah and Andrew – magical maternity session

This was a super special shoot!  Sarah is my very bestie… we’ve know one another since middle school!  So, I was honored that she asked me to do a maternity shoot for her.  We had just finished up a sweet little baby shower for her at her brother’s house and wanted to do this photoshoot before sunset.   Her brother’s house sat on this incredible piece of land.  It was a completely magical place and so fitting a backdrop to this magical time in life.  Sarah looks absolutely gorgeous and they are so in love.  I can’t wait to see them with their baby boy!
